Photo Essay: Caye Caulker Belize

Ten miles off the coast of Belize, in Central America, is a sleepy island called Caye Caulker. It is a place that is not easy to get to, and seemingly unknown to many travelers.

Rows of ramshackle buildings, painted in faded pastel colors, line each side of the dusty streets. Dogs roam freely around town and seem to be busy with their own agendas. The roads in this sun-drenched place are not paved and there are no automobiles . The only form of transportation is by foot, bike or golf cart. At the end of each day, everyone in town gathers on the west side of the island to celebrate the setting of the sun.

This is our photo essay of Caye Caulker and the people who call it home.
